Abstract of the Disclosure This invention discloses a process for the preparation of compounds having the formula: Image HCl wherein a) when R1 is -COCH3 or -COCH2OH, R2 is -OH, R3 is -OCH3 R4 is -H; and X is - COCF3 or H; b) when R2 is -COCH3 or -COCH2OH; R1 is -OH, R3 is -H, R4 is -OCH3; and X is -COCF3 or H; which are useful in treating certain mammalian tumors, and prepared from 9,10-anhydro-N-trifluoroacetyldaunorubicin, a known compound.
