PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation du trifluoro-2,2,2 éthanol par hydrolyse, en phase gazeuse, du chlorotrifluoroéthane. Ce procédé consiste à admettre un mélange gazeux de chloro-1 trifluoro-2,2,2 éthane et d'eau. sur un catalyseur solide constitué par ou contenant au moins un phosphate, un hydrogénophosphate ou un oxyde d'un métal di- ou trivalent, ce catalyseur étant porté à une température supérieure à 350°C et de préférence comprise entre 400 et 500°C. Le trifluoro-2,2,2 éthanol (TFE) ainsi obtenu est un alcool trifluoré possédant une très bonne stabilité thermique, ce qui le rend apte à un certain nombre d'applications, notamment dans la synthèse d'anesthésiques fluorés, en pharmacologie en général et comme solvant.
