ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The invention relates to a process for the prepa- ration of urea condensates and to their use as binder compo- nents in thermosetting surface coatings. To prepare these urea condensates, a primary di-and/or polyamine is reacted with urea, a secondary monoamine and, if appropriate, a po- lyalcohol at elevated temperatures in the presence or absence of catalysts, and the ammonia formed is separated off.
