ABSTRACT Hydroxyl- and carboxyl-containing resins for aqueous paint dispersions are prepared by reacting a copolymer component (A) prepared from vinyl esters of branched acids, styrenes or vinyl toluene, hydroxyalkyl ester, and alkyl of alpha-beta ethylenically unsaturated acid, with (B) a substantially 1:1 reaction product of trimellitic anhydride and glycidyl esters of branched acids.
