ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: This invention relates to a process for the production of 1,1-difluoroethylene from 1,1-difluoroethane, which comprises photochlorinating 1,1-difluoroethane to form reaction products 1,1-difluoro-1-chloroethane and, immediately afterwards, heating the obtained reaction products to temperatures of from 550 to 750°C isolating 1,1-difluoro-1-chloroethane therefrom. This process advantageously gives yields higher than 95% while involving little outlay on the used apparatus.
