ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Reductive amination of 1,3,3-trimethyl-5-oxo- cyclohexanecarbonitrile (IPN) with ammonia and hydrogen in the presence of nickel or cobalt Raney catalysts to form 3- aminomethyl-3,5,5-trimethyl-cyclohexylamine takes place in one stage and provides a good yield whilst requiring no pressure distillation if, in addition, a co-catalyst of the series of a salt of Ni, Co, Y, or a La element is used at a rate of 0.01 to 0.5 mol per mol Raney catalyst.
