PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF 2- METHYLPYRIDINE-5-PROPIONIC ACID ALKYL ESTERS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for the production of 2- methylpyridine-5-propionic acid alkyl esters, which comprises acetylating a 3-hydroxy-3-(2-methyl-5-pyridyl)- propionic acid alkyl ester and thereafter hydrogenating the resulting intermediate product with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst.
