ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE 3,3-dichloro-2-methylpropene is prepared by reacting 1-chloro-2-methylpropene with sulfuryl chloride in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of nitrogen- containing bases or phosphines. Suitable nitrogen- containing bases are preferably aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic amines, as well as mixtures thereof; suit- able phosphines are preferably aliphatic or aromatic phosphines.
