ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for the production of 4- hydroxy-6-polyfluoroalkylpyrimidines, starting from a polyfluoroalkylcarbonylacetic acid lower alkyl ester and a formamidine salt. 4-Hydroxy-6-pentafluoroethylpyrimidine is an intermediate product. The 4-hydroxy-6- polyfluoroalkylpyrimidines can be used for the production of trifluoromethylpyrimidines, trifluoromethylpurines and pentafluoroethylpyrimidines.
