ABSTRACT A process for the production of a sealing ring having a sealing lip, in which the material that forms the sealing lip is shaped into the form of a columnar hollow body whilst still in the plastically deformable state, and twisted prior to hardening between cross sectional planes that are axially separated, this being done so as to form hydrodynamically effective return elements. The hollow body is then hardened and widened out axially beyond the above-specified area and fixed in the housing.
