A process for the liquid phase oxidation of butane to produce acetic acid by reacting oxygen and butane in the presence of a cobalt catalyst in a liquid reaction composition in an oxidation reaction zone characterised in that the process is performed at a temperature in the reaction zone in the range 120 to 180 ~C whilst continuously maintaining a concentration of oxygen throughout the reaction zone equivalent to a partial pressure of oxygen greater than 2 bar and a concentration of cobalt oxidation catalyst in the liquid reaction composition of at least 0.12 % by weight cobalt and up to its limit of solubility in the liquid reaction composition.
L'invention concerne un procédé d'oxydation du butane dans la phase liquide pour produire un acide acétique. Le procédé consiste à mettre en réaction de l'oxygène et du butane en présence d'un catalyseur de cobalt dans une composition de réaction liquide dans une zone de réaction par oxydation. On réalise le procédé à une température de la zone de réaction comprise entre 120 et 180 ·C, en même temps qu'on maintient en permanence dans toute ladite zone de réaction une concentration d'oxygène équivalente à une pression partielle d'oxygène supérieure à 2 bars, et une concentration du catalyseur d'oxydation du cobalt dans la composition de réaction liquide d'au moins 0,12 % en poids de cobalt et cela, jusqu'à la limite de solubilité de ce dernier dans ladite composition de réaction liquide.
