The present invention concerns a process for the production of alginate having a mannuronic acid-content of at least 80 mole%, wherein said alginate is produced by:a) adding algae or seaweed to water under stirring, in a ratio of 1:3 to 1:20 respectively, at a pH above about 2.3, while maintaining a temperature above 20 ~C for at least 30 minutes, andb) separating said alginate from the solid material of the suspension in a) by a standard separation method such as filtration, and optionallyc) recovering said alginate from the solution.

La présente invention concerne un procédé pour la production d'alginate ayant une teneur en acide mannuronique d'au moins 80 mole %, dans lequel ledit alginate est produit par: a) addition d'algues ou de goémon à de l'eau avec agitation, en un rapport de 1:3 à 1:20 respectivement, à un pH supérieur à environ 2,3, tout en maintenant une température supérieure à 20 ·C pendant au moins 30 minutes, et b) séparation dudit alginate de la matière solide de la suspension dans a) par un procédé de séparation classique tel que la filtration, et facultativement c) récupération dudit alginate de la solution.
