A process is disclosed for producing at least one aromatic carboxylic acid by contacting a liquid reaction mixture comprising an aromatic feedstock and water with oxygen in the presence of a bromine-free metal catalyst composition wherein the metal catalyst composition has activity in the absence of bromine for oxidation of the aromatic feedstock with at least 80% conversion to oxidized aromatic derivatives of the aromatic feedstock and with at least 80% selectivity to the aromatic carboxylic acid. This process operates in water without the use of bromine at temperatures and residence times substantially the same as conventional processes for aromatic carboxylic acid manufacture, as well as with less total burning and with yields to product equivalent or higher than conventional processes.
L'invention concerne un procédé de production d'au moins un acide carboxylique aromatique. Ce procédé consiste à mettre en contact un mélange réactionnel liquide, comprenant une charge aromatique et de l'eau, avec de l'oxygène en présence d'une composition de catalyseur métallique sans brome, ladite composition étant active en l'absence de brome pour oxyder la charge aromatique avec au moins 80% de conversion en dérivés aromatiques oxydés de la charge aromatique et au moins 80% de sélectivité vis-à-vis de l'acide carboxylique aromatique. Ce procédé fonctionne dans l'eau sans utilisation de brome à des températures et avec des temps de séjour sensiblement identiques à ceux relatifs à des procédés classiques de fabrication d'acide carboxylique aromatique et permet de réduire la combustion totale et d'obtenir des rendements supérieurs ou égaux à ceux obtenus avec des procédés classiques.
