ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention comprises an improved process whereby bicyclic lactones useful in the preparation of prostaglandin-type (PG-type) compounds are produced. In particular the process provides a method whereby the poten- tial 15.alpha.-hydroxy of a PG-type compound is introduced with high stereo-selectivity into the lactone side chain by reduction of a side chain oxo moiety. -1-
