-23- ABSTRACT A process for the production of coloured films of paper impregnated with synthetic resin which contain melamine resin and have a three-dimensional surface structure,by printing the paper films with a pattern and lacquering thereover, and an aqueous printing colour is used, and the colour which is printed in the regions in which the lacquerlayer is thinner than in the other regions contains a lacquer repellent, and the printed and dried paper film is impregnated with an aqueous impregnation of a melamine resin from the unprinted side, with the formation of a one-sided excess of resin, and is dried, the printed and impregnated film is coated on the printed side with an aqueous lacquer based on melamine resins, and the lacquered film is hardened at elevated temperature without applying pressure.
