ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification describes a process for producing coloured, protective coatings on objects made of aluminum or aluminum alloys, to which a protective oxide layer has already been added. The process involves anodically oxidizing the object, electrolytically dyeing the object in an acid solution of a metal salt, for between 0.1 to 15 minutes with an alternating current of between 1 to 50 volts, immersing the object in an aqueous solution of a hetero- polybasic acid of silicon or phosphorus with molybdenum, and treating the object in boiling water.
