The invention relates to a process for the preparation of dichlorohydrin by reacting an allyl chloride feed with water and chlorine, wherein an allyl chloride feed is used which contains less than 0.30 wt% of hexadiene, especially when the allyl chloride feed used is prepared by removing hexadiene from an allyl chloride feed which contains at least 0.30 wt% of hexadiene.
