ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Ester products are obtained using small amounts of an immobili- zed supported transition metal catalyst which has hydrolytic stability. The catalyst may be filtered and reused. Esters and polyesters having improved colour and containing virtually no residual metal catalyst can be obtained with this process either by direct esterification or by ester interchange.
