Abstract of the Disclosure Novel process for the production of methylol- aminotriazines which are etherified with one or more alkanols and which have on average 0.7n to 2n methylol groups per molecule, 30 to 60% of the methylol groups being etherified, and n being the numer of amino groups in the methylol- aminotriazine, wherein an aminotriazine is heated with certain proportions, generally 0.77n to 3n mols of formaldehyde and an alkanol or a mixture of alkanols, generally in an amount of 2.5n to 7n per mol of the aminotriazine, in the presence of a strong acid at a pH of 3 to 6.5, in a pressure-tight and closed apparatus, to a temperature of between 80 and 130°C adequate to produce a gauge pressure of a least 0.1 atmosphere in the apparatus. The novel process results in an unexpected great saving of reaction time and of energy. Exceptionally small amounts of catalytically active acids are required and, consequently, the products obtained contain only very small amounts of ionic compounds. The products have excellent mechanical and electrical properties and are very suitable in all fields of application of aminoplast resins.
