3-16052/+/ARL 373 ABSTRACT PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF IMAGES A process for the production of an image on a substrate having an electrically conductive surface comprises (i) applying a radiation-polymerisable film to said surface by electrodeposition from a composition comprising a solution or dispersion in an electrodeposition medium of a solid radiation polymerisable resin having, per average molecule, more than one radiation-polymerisable ethylenically unsaturated group, a photoinitiating residue which initiates polymerisation of said polymerisable group on exposure to radiation and a salt-forming group which is present at least partially in ionised form, (ii) subjecting the film to radiation in a predetermined pattern, thereby polymerising exposed areas of the film, and (iii) removing areas of the film not exposed in stage (ii). Typical radiation-polymerisable resins-are obtained by reacting an epoxide resin with a stoichiometric deficiency of 1-benzoylcyclohexanol, reacting the resulting product with methacrylic acid and reacting the product, through alcoholic hydroxyl groups thereof, with ethylenediaminetetracetic acid anhydride.
