89-399 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a process for the production of a metal-oxide aerosol and a process for utilizing the metal-oxide aerosol as an effluent sorbent. The process for producing the metal-oxide aerosol comprises vaporizing the elemental metal in an oxidant free environment under controlled conditions and thereafter oxidizing said vaporized metal under controlled conditions to form an aerosol of said metal-oxide in a carrier gas stream. The aerosol may thereafter be fed to an effluent containing gaseous stream for removal of effluents under controlled temperature conditions.
