A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF N- AND O-SUBSTITUTED MONOURETHANES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE N- and O-substituted monourethanes are produced by reacting at elevated temperature an N-aryl-O-alkyl urethane with a primary monoamine in the presence of a high boiling alcohol and removing the arylamine formed during this reaction from the reaction mixture. The primary monoamine starting material should be such that it will not distill off during the reaction but must have a boiling point (at 1013 mbar) at least 5°C higher than the arylamine which forms during the reaction. The high boiling alcohol has a boiling point of at least 190°C at atmospheric pressure. The reaction is carried out at a temperature of from 180 to 300°C.
