A process for the production of polyether block copolysulfones (PEBSU's) via trans- etherification is disclosed. In the inventive process, an aromatic sulfone polymer is reacted with an aliphatic polyether having on average at least one terminal OH . function, preferably in the presence of a basic catalyst. In a preferred embodiment the reaction is carried out in a dipolar aprotic solvent. PEBSU's are used in biomedical applications such as for dialysis membranes.
