IMPROVED SULFURIC ACID PLANT ABSTRACT Sulfuric acid is produced from a gas stream containing at least approximately 12% sulfur dioxide. The sulfur dioxide is converted to sulfur trioxide in a converter which has three catalyst beds in a first oxidation stage and two catalyst beds in a second oxidation stage. The sulfur trioxide is absorbed in an interpass absorption tower and a final absorption tower to produce sulfuric acid.
