A process for producing a copolymer of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated monomer having at least one pendant unit selected from a carboxylic acid group and derivatives thereof and a copolymerisable monomer is described in which the process is carried out in a single solvent which is particularly an aromatic solvent. Processes of controlling the reaction and the particle size of the polymer produced are also described.

Procédé de production d'un copolymère composé d'un monomère .alpha.,.beta.-insaturé comprenant au moins un motif pendant choisi entre un groupe acide carboxylique et ses dérivés, et d'un monomère copolymérisable, ce procédé étant mis en oeuvre avec un seul solvant, particulièrement un solvant aromatique. Des procédés de régulation de la réaction et de la grosseur particulaire du polymère obtenu sont également décrits.
