ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A process for the purification of proteins from a fluid medium wherein said proteins have an isoelectric pH higher than the pH of said fluid medium, said process comprising passing the liquid medium over acidic polysaccharide gel particles of at least 0.5 mm in the shortest dimension, and recovering the desired proteins from the gel particles by elution with an aqueous salt solution having ions concentration of at least 5 grams per liter.
