ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a process for the recovery of NH3 and SO2 from a contaminated ammonium salt of sulphuric acid obtained in the production of E-caprolactam. The process comprises reacting the salt in a finely divided state with combustion gases obtained by burning a fuel with oxygen and recovering ammonia sulphur dioxide from the resulting reaction mixture.
