The invention provides a process for reducing the level of hydrogen sulphide in a liquid or gas by treatment of the liquid or gas with an H~2S-scavenger product derivable by the reaction of a carbonyl group-containing compound with an alcohol, thiol, amide, thioamide, urea or thiourea. The carbonyl group- containing compound is preferably formaldehyde, and preferably the product is derivable by reaction of formaldehyde with an amine-free alcohol or urea selected from ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, ethyl alcohol, n-butanol, a sugar, a low molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol, castor oil fatty acid and urea. More especially, the scavenger product is used with an amine, especially monoethanolamine.

L'invention concerne un procédé de réduction de la teneur en sulfure d'hydrogène dans un liquide ou un gaz par traitement de ce liquide ou de ce gaz au moyen d'un produit d'épuration de H2S pouvant être dérivé par réaction d'un composé contenant un groupe carbonyle avec un alcool, un thiol, un amide, un thioamide, de l'urée ou de la thiourée. Ce composé contenant un groupe carbonyle est de préférence du formaldéhyde, et le produit peut de préférence être dérivé par réaction de formaldéhyde avec de l'urée ou un alcool sans amine choisi parmi de l'éthylène glycol, du propylène glycol, du glycérol, du diéthylène glycol, du triéthylène glycol, de l'alcool éthylique, du n-butanol, un sucre, un alcool polyvinylique à faible poids moléculaire, un acide gras d'huile de ricin et de l'urée. Plus particulièrement, ledit produit d'épuration est utilisé avec une amine, et notamment avec une monoéthanolamine.
