A b s t r a c t A process is disclosed for the regeneration of a sorbent, particular- ly an ion exchanger used in the recovery, isolation or production of sugars, wherein a regeneration solution is used which contains at least 20 meq/1 of an alkali metal hydroxide or hydroxide of an alka- line earth metal having an atomic number of at least 20, and at least 1% by weight of a monosaccharide or disaccharide.
