A B S T R A C T A PROCESS FOR THE REMOVAL OF ACID GASES FROM A GAS MIXTURE MAINLY CONSISTING OF METHANE A process for the removal of acid gases form a gas mixture mainly consisting of methane by treating said gas mixture in a first step with a liquid mixture which contains a physical absorbent (e.g. sulfolane) and a chemical absorbent (e.g. a tertiary amine such as methyl diethanolamine), in which first step H2S is se- lectively removed in respect of CO2, and consecutively treating the resultant gas mixture in a second step with a different liquid mixture which contains a physical absorbent (e.g. sulfolane) and a chemical absorbent (e.g. a primary or secondary amine such as di-isopropanol amine), in which second step the remaining acid gases are virtually completely removed.
