A process for removing H2S from an H2S-containing gas stream including the steps of passing the H2S-containing gas stream so as to contact an alkaline liquid for a period of time of no more than 0.03 seconds, reacting the alkaline liquid with the H2S-containing gas stream so as to form a NaSH-containing liquid solution, and removing the NaSH-containing liquid solution from the gas stream. The alkaline liquid is sodium hydroxide. The NaSH-containing liquid solution is passed to an evaporator so as to form a solution having a NaSH concentration of no less than twenty percent. The H2S-containing gas stream is passed to an inlet of an eductor. The alkaline liquid is also passed to another inlet to the eductor. The alkaline liquid and the H2S-containing gas stream are mixed within the eductor. A centrifugal separator is used so as to separate the NaSH-containing liquid solution from the reacted gas stream.
