Le procédé est caractérisé en ce que lesdits résidus sont traités par un gaz inerte à l'état liquide ou supercritique, le cas échéant en présence d'un co-extractant choisi parmi les esters, les hydrocarbures aromatiques chlore ou non, les hydrocarbures aliphatiques chlorés. Le procédé convient en particulier au traitement des résidus se présentant sous forme de goudrons.
