ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The present invention is directed to an improved process for the polymerization of vinyl chloride. The improvement comprises the addition to the polymerization reaction mixture of (i) from 0.01 to 0.5% by weight of the monomers of a polyvinyl alcohol having an average saponification of from 300 to 500 and (ii) from 0.01 to 0.5% by weight based on the monomers of clay, bentonite, or a hydroxylated compound con- taining an element from Group IIA, IIB, IIIA, IVA, or VIII of the Periodic System, to prevent the forming of incrustations on the walls of the reactor.
