ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a process for the synthesis of dibenzofuran by carrying out the oxidative dehydrocyclization of 2-cyclohexenylcyclohexanone at high temperatures in the presence of a dehydrocyclization catalyst which is a member of the group consisting of the oxides and mixtures of oxides of the metals belonging the groups III, IV, V, VI and VIII of the Periodic System, and an oxidizing agent. By the claimed process very high yields of dibenzofuran are achieved.
