A method for the synthesis of ZSM-48 type zeolites in the absence of a nitrogenous organic agent by hydrothermally reacting a mixture containing a tetravalent silicon source, hydroxide ions, water, a glycol and optionally a trivalent aluminium source. The resulting zeolites are useful as selective organophilic adsorbents and catalysts.
