ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the treatment of calcium titanate, e.g. a perovskite ore or concentrate, comprising the step of con- tacting calcium titanate with an excess of hydrogen sulphide at a temperature in the range of about 700 to 1200°C. is dis- closed. In a preferred embodiment the resulting mixture of titanium dioxide and calcium compounds is treated with a sat- urated aqueous solution of hydrogen sulphide to facilitate separation of the titanium dioxide. The process provides a method of reducing the magnesium and alkaline each content of perovskite.
