ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A process for the decontamination of oxygenated gases comprises growing a mycelium of pocket rot mushrooms on a substrate and bringing the exhaust gas into contact with the mycelium. The substrate comprises a waste material, such as agricultural, forestry, or fishery wastes, or wastes from the wood pulping industry. The mycelium and the substrate are shaped into body forms of a desired configuration which promote contact of the oxygenated gas with the mycelium in particular environments.
