ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Phosphazene polymers are prepared by thermally polymerising one or more cyclic compounds of general formula: (NPC12)n wherein n represents an integer of from 3 to 10, in the presence of a catalyst of formula: R-O-SO2-R' wherein R and R' which may be the same or different, each represent halogen, ammonium, amine, C1-C12 aliphatic alkyl, optionally substituted C1-C12 cycloaliphatic, optionally substituted aryl, heterocyclic or a group of the type wherein R and R' together complete a ring containing the sulphur atom is disclosed; in this way it is possible to produce phosphazene polymers of high molecular weight with a defined low inconsistency factor, in a short polymerization time.
