ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Herein disclosed is a process for thermally cracking a heavy petroleum oil, which includes introducing a preheated heavy petroleum oil into a reaction vessel in which the oil is contacted with a superheated steam to effect the thermal cracking. In the process, a predetermined amount of a silicone antifoamer is added to the heavy petroleum oil prior to the introduction into the vessel. - 1 -
