The transesterification of (meth)acrylic acid esters is efficiently carried out by mixing an alkyl (meth)acrylate having small alkyl residues in the ester substituent with an alcohol that has one or more esterizable hydroxyl groups in the presence of 0.01 to 10% by weight of a mixed catalyst consisting of 5 to 95 mole % of a diorganyl tin oxide and 95 to 5 mole % of an organyl tin trihalogenide and/or diorganyl tin dihalogenide.
