A B S T R A C T A process for treating coke-oven gas which comprises passing the hot coke-oven gas, optionally with desulphurizing or compression or both, to a catalytic reactor and cracking the coke-oven gas in the reactor with steam or with carbon dioxide-containing gases or both as the reacting media, whereby the coke-oven gas is converted to a cracked gas rich in carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
