A process for treating particles comprising the steps of: (i) contacting the particles with a compound of Formula I: (see formula I) wherein at least one of R1, R2 and R3 are hydroxyl or hydrolysable groups, (ii) contacting the particles with a compound of Formula II: (see formula II) wherein R4 is a C1-C40 alkylene group, t is 0 or 1 and X is an anion.
