O.Z. 0050/033183 Abstract of the Disclosure: A process for treating pig iron melts and steel melts or alloys in a converter, crucible or other vessel, wherein the entire refining and treatment process is carried out in a vessel with carbon dioxide, continuously and up to the finishing of the steel. Liquid carbon dioxide under a pressure of from 4.0 to 20.0 bar is used for the treatment. From about 50 to 300 kg of CO2/tonne of steel are required for the refining of the pig iron melt.
