ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a process for treating the residual gas obtained in the production of cyanuric chloride, in which residual gas is fed into the lower end of a column at a pressure of 1 to 5 bars (absolute), said gas is reacted in the column with at the least the equivalent amount of hydrogen cyanide for the formation of cyanogen chloride, said gas being passed in counterflow to water charged in the upper end of the column, the aqueous solution of cyanogen chloride thus formed being drawn off from the lower end of the column and the purified waste gas leav- ing the upper end of the column.
