ABSTRACT The invention relates to a process for using residual aqueous sludge from painting in a spray-booth with a fibrous material to produce a fibre-reinforced thermoset panel. The water content of the sludge is reduced to a residual value not exceeding 35% by weight by mechanical working such as com- pressing, extruding or rolling. The obtained wet plastic product and the fibrous reinforcing material are associated together in a sludge: fibre weight ratio from about 1:4 to about 9:1 to form a heat-curable panel without addition of an extraneous heat-curable binder, and the panel is hot-pressed at an elevated temperature and during a time sufficient to at least partially heat-set the panel.
