An improved process for the decontamination of process equipment and vessels is described wherein an extractant material for the contaminant and a surfactant are vaporized, heated with steam, to condense on the internal surfaces of the vessel to trap contaminants, such as benzene, for removal from the vessel to allow safe entry for humans for inspection and maintenance.

L'invention décrit un procédé amélioré de décontamination d'équipement et de récipients utilisé au cours de procédés et dans lesquels un matériau d'extraction du contaminant et un surfactant sont vaporisés puis chauffés avec de la vapeur afin de povoquer une condensation sur les surfaces internes du récipient pour capturer les contaminants comme le benzène qui est extrait du récipient afin de permettre à l'homme d'y pénétrer en toute sécurité pour réaliser des travaux d'inspection et d'entretien.
