ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention concerns a process for washing insulators supporting overhead electric lines, allowing to operate on the live line. According to the invention, the washing of the insulator is carried out by spraying jets of detergent fluid in close proximity to and over the whole surface of the insulator, said jets being sprayed from a plurality of electrically insulated nozzles. Preferably, the washing of the insulator is carried out in parts, at different levels, by hitting in succession single parts of the insulator with said jets of detergent fluid, while simultaneously blowing drying air on the other parts. The invention also concerns the washing apparatus, which comprises at least one washing head provided with a plurality of spray nozzles surrounding the insulator in close proximity thereto, at least part of said washing head and/or said spray nozzles being electrically insulated.
