ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Improved efficiencies in mill operations can be achieved in tumbling mill, wet grinding of coal or ore containing metal values by carrying out the grinding process in the presence of a chemical grinding aid. An increase in the rate of ore-particle breakage obtained by use of the grinding aid allows higher ore-slurry densities to be ground without an accompanying decrease in grinding kinetics. This permits either a greater throughput of ground slurry per unit of time and therefor a lower energy consumption per ton of ore ground and/or an increase in the fineness of ground slurry at a constant throughput.
