2090498 9204813 PCTABS00011 The present invention relates to a process interface system (1), in which single-channel modules (D, A) designed on the basis of compact IC technique are housed in terminal block-like blocks of the same type as standard terminal blocks (6a-6d) for mounting rails (4). The single-channel modules (D, A) are designed in few different versions which are programmed during installation for their field of use as AI or AO interface unit and as DI or DO interface unit, respectively, as well as for their voltage range. Each interface unit communicates directly with the system computer (PC) via a serial bus (2) in the form of electrically conducting paths (5a, 5b, 5c) applied to the mounting rail (4) on which the respective interface module (D, A) has been mounted. The modules are supplied with power also through conducting paths (5a, 5b, 5c) on the surface of the mounting rail. Connection of transducers (3a, 3d) is made direct to the respective interface module. The terminal blocks (6a-6d) can be freely mixed with the interface modules (D, A) for, for example, voltage distribution to the transducers.
