ABSTRACT In a process of manufacturing rolls of continuous synthetic thermoplastic film consisting of extruded flat film or of extruded blow-formed and flattened tubular film, the thickness of the film is measured over the width of the film and any striplike portions which deviate in thickness from the mean thickness of the film are adjusted to said mean thick- ness in that the temperatures of juxtaposed temperature control sectors are changed or the width of those portions of the slot die or of the annular die from which said striplike portions have been extruded are changed. The films are wound up to form film rolls. When a striplike longitudinal portion having a rela- tively large thickness has been detected in the film the film is subsequently extruded to have a corres- ponding portion which has a relatively small thickness within the specified thickness limits and the length of said subsequently extruded portion is so selected that said two portions will be superimposed in the roll and will have an average thickness which is approxi- mately as large as the mean film thickness.
